Suggested Language for a Bequest to Lake Forest College

Gifts to Lake Forest College through a will or living trust make a lasting and meaningful difference to the College and our students. Such gifts can be made for a specific amount, a percentage of an estate’s assets, the entire or a portion of residue left of an estate after other bequests are made, or specific assets.

While your estate attorney can provide the best language to fit your circumstances, a gift through your will or
living trust might be worded like this:

Percentage:
“I give _______percent (____ %) of my estate to Lake Forest College, an educational institution located at 555 N.
Sheridan Rd. Lake Forest, IL 60045, for the general use and purposes of the College.”

Specific Amount:
“I give the sum of _______dollars ($_______) of my estate to Lake Forest College, an educational institution located at 555 N. Sheridan Rd. Lake Forest, IL 60045, for the general use and purposes of the College.”

Entire Residue:
“I give to Lake Forest College, an educational institution located at 555 N. Sheridan Rd. Lake Forest, IL 60045, all the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate for the general use and purposes of the College.”

Specific Assets:
“I give (description of the specific asset) to Lake Forest College, an educational institution at 555 N. Sheridan Rd.
Lake Forest, IL 60045, for the general use and purposes of the College.”

Individuals are encouraged to contact the Office of Gift Planning if a gift of personal or tangible property is being considered.

While unrestricted gifts allow the College to allocate funds to areas of greatest need, you can instruct the College to use your bequest for a designated purpose, such as an endowed scholarship, or restrict it to support a specific department, program, or activity. Donors are encouraged to share their estate plans with the College, particularly if you prefer to restrict your bequest. Consulting with the College will help us understand and honor your commitment. What’s more, sharing your plans will allow us to thank you for your generous foresight and welcome you to join the 1857 Society, our donor recognition society for individuals who have included Lake Forest College in their estate plans or another planned gift arrangement. You may send a copy of the portion of the document pertaining to your gift to the College along with contact information for the estate representative to: Office of Gift Planning, Lake Forest College, 555 N. Sheridan Rd., Lake Forest, IL 60045.

Thank you.
